Interest in the field of therapeutic ultrasound has been gathering mom
entum in recent years. It is used in physiotherapy, cardiology, ophtha
lmology, cancer therapy, dentistry, for the destruction of renal and g
all bladder stones and several surgical instruments are based on ultra
sonic vibration. The mechanisms of action are still under investigatio
n and several problems associated with dosimetry and measurement of ul
trasound power remain unresolved. The continuing advances in this fiel
d promise exciting developments in the coming years.
