A dual-reference beam, plane-wave illumination, holographic interferom
etry set-up has been developed which can operate in a rapid double-pul
se mode and which provides multiple simultaneous views of a compressib
le flow field. it is intended for the quantitative study of the instan
taneous density distribution in a 3D (turbulent) flow field, as well a
s for the study of density changes that take place in a compressible t
urbulent flow in very short time intervals (1-800 mu s). Preliminary r
esults were obtained for a compressible free jet flow and for an oscil
lating Row from a pipe-collar nozzle.
