S. Christie et al., DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A MULTI-DETECTING 2-DIMENSIONAL RANGING SENSOR, Measurement science & technology, 6(9), 1995, pp. 1301-1308
The development of a new, robust and compact system capable of acquiri
ng two-dimensional range information of a target object within an imag
e scene at near video frame rates is described. The system is based up
on the high-speed gating capability of laser diode illumination, and a
micro-channel-based image-intensified CCD camera. The technique diffe
rs significantly from conventional time-of-flight-range gated systems,
since the range information is determined purely by measurement of th
e relative phase and intensity of a reflected light pulse.
