Nj. Lawson et al., PARTICLE IMAGE VELOCIMETRY - THEORY AND APPLICATION OF IMAGE LABELINGUSING A POLARIZATION-SENSITIVE PUPIL MASK, Measurement science & technology, 6(9), 1995, pp. 1317-1324
A simple method of labelling the first and second exposure images of a
ply recording is presented. This was achieved by using two laser puls
es of orthogonal polarization in conjunction with a polarization-sensi
tive adaptive optic inserted into the iris plane of the camera objecti
ve. This system changed the transfer characteristics of the recording
optics between exposures producing two sets of orthogonally oriented f
ringed particles. This allows the images from each exposure to be addr
essed independently, therefore permitting cross correlation analysis.
The technique can be applied to any suitably seeded flow. The advantag
es and disadvantages of the system are discussed.
