Abstract
The number of days per synodic cycle was estimated from growth rhythms of Bivalve shells belonging to the family Pectinidae over the last 20 0 million years. Large variations are documented. Their linking to pla te tectonic activity and to the development of the Quaternary glaciati on is discussed. The possibility of a relation with change in Earth's rotation raises problems of interpretation.
