The solubilities of the ternary system, La(NCS)(3) . 4. 5H(2)O-B15C5-C
2H5OH, were investigated at 298. 15 K by a semimicro method for study
of phase equilibrium and the refractive indexes of saturated solutions
were determined. A stoichiometrical coordination compound, La(NCS)(3)
. B15C5 . 4. 5H(2)O(I), formed in the system. The solid coordination
compound was prepared and characterized by IR, TG, DTG, DSC and conduc
tivity measurement. The integral heats of solution of La(NCS)(3) . 4.
5H(2)O in B15C5-C2H5OH solution, the complex (I) and B15C5 in C2H5OH w
ere measured calorimetrically at 298. 15 K. By means of thermochemical
reactions suggested in this paper, the standard molar enthalpy of for
mation for (I) was obtained.
