Av. Volkov et al., THE STATE OF CU2-PAA POLYMER MATRIX( IONS AND HIGHLY DISPERSED CUS IMMOBILIZED IN PVA), Journal of inorganic and organometallic polymers, 5(3), 1995, pp. 295-305
Microheterogeneous water swelling polymer compositions containing high
ly dispersed semiconductive component CuS have been obtained on the ba
sis of PVA-PAA mixtures. Average CuS particle size range is 8-13 nm. T
he formation of highly dispersed CuS phase takes place upon attraction
of coordinately bonded (immobilized) CU2+ ions and sulfide ions. The
interaction occurs directly in polymer matrix bulk (in situ method). A
ccording to IR spectroscopy data, the state of CU2+ ions in polymer ma
trix is characterized by formation of coordination centers with donor-
acceptor and ionic bonds between CU2+ and carboxylic groups of PAA. St
ructure characteristics of highly dispersed polymer-CuS compositions (
particle size distribution, crystallite size, specific surface, concen
tration) and phase boundary intermolecular interactions type in polyme
r-CuS compositions have been studied using X-ray scattering and IR spe
ctroscopy methods. Such compositions possess rather high swelling (sim
ilar to 400 wt%) and under hydrogel state display good mechanical prop
erties (E = 0.6 MPa, sigma(b) = 2.5 MPa, epsilon = 370 %) and permeabi
lity (similar to 21/m(2) . h).
