An investigation into the antitumour effect of Juzen-Taiho-To (TJ-48,
a kampo medicine) was conducted on malignant glioma using xenogeneic a
nd syngeneic tumour models. Both models were divided into a control di
et group and a group receiving a TJ-48-supplemented diet, and the anti
tumour effect and survival rate were compared. immune function paramet
ers and tumour necrosis factor (TNF) activity were also serially measu
red. Prolongation of survival was noted in the TJ-48 group as well as
an increase of natural killer (NK) cell activity and TNF production.
