Spectroscopic characterization of the active base of an industrial cat
alysts and NC208 modified copper-based catalysts for methanol synthesi
s has been carried out: by means of XRD and FTIR methods. The experime
ntal results showed that active site on functioning copper-based catal
ysts for methanol synthesis is probably ''Cu-x(0)-Cu+-O-Zn2+/Al2O3-MO(
x)'', and that the surface concentration of Cu+-site on functioning NC
208, prepared by adding small amount of the metal oxide MO(x) to indus
trial catalyst C207, was higher than that of C207 catalyst, and that t
he surface of functioning NC208 catalyst had higher Cu+/Cu-0 ratio and
valence stability than that of C207. These peculiarities have close a
relation with more persistent activity and higher thermal stability t
han modified NC208 catalyst.
