W. Wu et al., A STUDY ON IMPACT PROPERTIES OF GAMMA-RAY IRRADIATED LLDPE FILLED WITH ALUMINA-TRIHYDRATE, Gaodeng xuexiao huaxue xuebao, 18(1), 1997, pp. 140-144
Alumina trihydrate(ATH) can be used as a fire retardant of polyethylen
e which is incompatible with ATH. Functional groups(mainly carbonyl an
d hydroxyl groups) are introduced to LLDPE molecular chains by gamma-r
ays in air so as to improve the affinity between LLDPE and ATH. The ef
fect of dose rate on oxidation and degradation of LLDPE exposed to gam
ma-rays in air under the same integrated dose, and the impact properti
es of LLDPE/gamma-LLDPE/ATH blend were studied in this paper, The expe
rimental results show that the lower dose rate favors oxidation and de
gradation of LLDPE, gamma-LLDPE can distinctly increase the impact str
ength of LLDPE/ATH blend, and improve the dispersion of ATH in LLDPE m
atrix, By adding 10% gamma-LLDPE (0.1 kGy/h, 50 kGy) of the matrix to
ATH (50% by weight) filled LLDPE, the impact strength of blend can inc
rease from 65 J/m to 260 J/m.
