Abstract
We present a set of names, standard definitions, symbols, units and AS CII symbols for the common parameters used to describe semiconductor l asers. These were developed as part of the European-Union's COST-240 p roject 'Techniques for modelling and measurement of advanced photonic telecommunications devices', which brought together many views from re presentatives of the European photonics community.
