Ml. Nunes et al., TRIHEXYPHENIDYL AND ISOPRINOSINE IN THE TREATMENT OF SUBACUTE SCLEROSING PANENCEPHALITIS, Pediatric neurology, 13(2), 1995, pp. 153-156
Six cases of subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (1 stage I, 3 stage I
I, 2 stage III) were diagnosed at our institution in the last 10 years
. Five patients were treated with isoprinosine and the antiepileptic d
rug valproic acid. Three patients presented with myoclonic seizures re
fractory to valproic acid and the usual antiepileptic therapy. They re
ceived trihexyphenidyl with good results. We suggest the use of trihex
yphenidyl in combination with isoprinosine in patients with subacute s
clerosing panencephalitis with myoclonic seizures refractory to valpro
ic acid.
