Abstract
Two new species of free-living marine nematodes belonging to the genus Laxus Cobb, 1894, L, oneistus and L. cosmopolitus, are described from shallow subtidal sands in the Belize Barrier Reef and the Adriatic Se a. Both species are covered by ectosymbiotic chemoautotrophic sulfur-o xidizing bacteria. The genus Laxus is redefined and Catanema cobbi Ing lis, 1967 transferred to this genus. For L, oneistus, biometrical data for juvenile stages are given.
