The effects of ip administration of the 5-HT2 agonists DOI-hydrochlori
de (DOI) and alpha-methyl-serotonin (alpha-CH3-HT) (10, 20 and 30 mg/k
g) and the 5-HT3 agonists Quipazine N-methyl-diamaleate (QUIP), trimet
hylserotonin iodide (5-HTQ) and 2-methyl-serotonin (2-Me-HT) (10 mg/kg
) on PRL secretion were analysed in adult male rats decapitated 60 min
after drug or vehicle administration. In addition, the effectiveness
of 5-HT3 agonists were analysed in prepubertal (30 days old) male rats
. We found that in adult males a significant increase in PRL secretion
was observed after administration of DOI, alpha-CH3-HT and 2-Me-HT. I
n contrast, PRL secretion remain unchanged in prepubertal males after
administration of 5-HT3 agonists.
