Abstract
Time-resolved, fluorescence-detected infrared-ultraviolet double reson ance spectroscopy of acetylene in the 12700 cm(-1) '4v(CH)' rovibratio nal manifold reveals unusual symmetry-breaking energy transfer, induce d (at least in part) by collisions. This takes the form of odd-numbere d changes of the rotational quantum number J, despite the fact that in tramolecular transfer between the ortho and para nuclear-spin modifica tions of such a molecule is usually forbidden.
