P. Sidheswaran et An. Bhat, STUDIES ON ZEOLITISATION OF KAOLINITE, Indian journal of chemistry. Sect. A: Inorganic, physical, theoretical & analytical, 34(10), 1995, pp. 800-802
Kaolinite has been hydrothermally zeolitised in caustic to generate tw
o different zeolites-sodalite hydrate and Na 4A. Conditions favouring
the formation of the above two zeolites using kaolinite have been esta
blished. Under controlled conditions partially zeolitised(sodalite hyd
rate) kaolinite has been prepared and examined for thermal stability.
It is observed that kaolinite in the presence of sodalite hydrate is u
nstable at temperatures above 400 degrees C. This has been attributed
to the reaction of kaolinite with entrained caustic in the sodalite hy
drate structure.
