Abstract
The crystal structures of I, 4-dihydrazinophthalazine monohydrochlorid e, C8H11N6+.Cl-, and 1,4-dihydrazinophthalazine dihydrochloride dihydr ate, C8H12N62+.2Cl(-).2H(2)O, have been determined. The protonation si tes on the 1,4-dihydrazinophthalazine molecule were identified (i.e. 1 ,4-dihydrazinophthalazin-2-ium chloride and 4-hydrazinio-1-hydrazinoph thalazin-2-ium dichloride dihydrate). A potentiometric study showed th at in aqueous solution 1,4-dihydrazinophthalazine behaves as a diproti c base with pK(a1) = 4.24 and pK(a2) = 8.13.
