This paper investigates the operation of an axial field-switched reluc
tance generator, referred to as an AFSRG, when it is driven by wind en
ergy. The generator is excited periodically through a battery charged
from a photovoltaic module at low current values compared with output
load current. The AFSRG system components are described with an illust
ration of each component's function. The AFSRG's performance is descri
bed using a simple simulation for a wide speed range and at different
output voltages.
