Abstract
We derive a generating function for the second moment of the distinct number of sites visited by an n-step lattice random walk. The formalis m allows us to find asymptotic forms for the second moment as previous ly given in the mathematical literature using much more complicated te chniques. The general technique can, in principle, be utilized in a de rivation of higher moments.
