A closed-form model for the second-law-based thermoeconomic optimizati
on of a sensible heat storage system, in which the energy is stored in
a large liquid bath from a hot-gas source, is discussed with an examp
le problem. The results are compared with those obtained from Bejan's
analysis to illustrate usefulness of the present approach. The influen
ce of important parameters on the optimum number of heat transfer unit
s N-tu,N-opt and dimensionless charging time theta(opt) are presented
in a graphic form.
