High spatial resolution 50 and 100 mu m observations of the active sta
r-forming region RCW 122C show that the far-infrared emission from RCW
122C is resolved into two separate sources, RCW 122C I and II, which
correspond to the radio continuum sources seen by the VLA (Gaume & Mut
el). The dust temperatures are 32 and 34 K, and the far-infrared lumin
osities are 9.1 x 10(4) L. and 5.6 x 10(4) L. for RCW 122C I and II, r
espectively. The bolometric luminosities correspond to two zero-age ma
in-sequence stars of types O7 and O8.5 for RCW 122C I and II, respecti
vely. These stars are deeply embedded in the surrounding molecular clo
uds, with visual extinctions of approximate to 48 and approximate to 3
2 mag, respectively.
