Hydrological processes are an integral component of both global climat
e change arising from increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases an
d the assessment of subsequent terrestrial impacts. This article exami
nes the potential sensivity of water resources in the UK to climatic c
hange as exemplified by the 1988-92 drought. The representation of hyd
rological processes at three distinct model scales is then discussed w
ith reference to global hydrology, regional downscaling and catchment-
scale responses. A final section speculates on future directions of re
search for an emerging greenhouse hydrology.
