SCALES OF PLANKTON PATCHINESS - BIOMASS VERSUS DEMOGRAPHY

Analyses of the spatial variability of zooplankton in a 100 x 100 km s ite in the northern North Sea show that the biomass has relatively sma ll-scale but large-amplitude patchiness, whereas the stage structure o f the dominant copepod, Calanus finmarchicus, is uncorrelated at these scales.
