In the T-10 tokamak, the radial profile of the longitudinal current de
nsity is controlled with the help of an electron-cyclotron current dri
ve (ECCD), The conditions for sawtooth stabilization are found. The pe
culiarities of the sawtooth fluctuations near the stability boundary a
re investigated. Plasmas with shear S < 0 in the plasma core and with
q(r) > 1 are obtained, Under condition S < 0, an abrupt transition to
the regime of improved plasma confinement is observed.
