A stable crystalline hydrogen-bonded adduct of dimethyl sulphoxide (DM
SO) and 7-hydroxy-5,6,8-trifluoro-2-carboxychromone has been prepared
by the reaction of 2-carboxy-5,6,7,8-tetrafluorochromone with KOH/glyc
erol in DMSO. It has been found that pentafluorophenol and also -5,6,8
-trifluoro-4(1H)-4-oxoquinoline-2-carboxylic acid form the correspondi
ng crystalline hydrogen-bonded adducts with DMSO. The structure of the
latter has been established from an X-ray crystallographic study.
