Abstract
Oligosaccharides derived from xyloglucan by digestion with commercial cellulase can act as elicitors or suppressors of the defense responses in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers. The fragments with high mole cular weights, formed at the first stages of hydrolysis, showed an eli citor activity. During further hydrolysis, the fragments of low molecu lar weights appeared, characterized by a suppressor effect. The fracti ons of suppressors inhibited the defense responses in potato tubers at extremely low concentrations.
