Abstract
A statistical analysis of remote sensing data on tropical cyclons in t he World ocean over a five-year period (1988-1992), represented as a t ime series of events, showed that a probability model of the global tr opical cyclogenesis (amplitude characteristics) can be reported in ter ms of Poisson processes with stable parameters. Possible stochastic mo dels of the birth-and-death type are discussed.
