Airphotos and Kosmos and Landsat space images returned in 1956, 1973,
1978, and 1986 have made it possible to evaluate the dynamics of the p
ollution of Lake Imandra by industrial effluents from the Apatit integ
rated mining and chemical works. The 1973 and 1078 images recorded the
maximum presence of suspended material, which extended over half the
water surface of Bol'shaya Imandra. In 1986, the dispersal plume of su
spended material had shrunk substantially thanks to the introduction o
f partial water recycling at the Apatit concentrating mills.
