This paper describes a system called Passive Pyrheliometric Scanner wh
ich automatically tracks the solar disc and spectrally records the sol
ar radiation in the wavelength range 200-1000 nm. From such records at
mospheric optics parameters can be estimated and determination of the
total column in the atmosphere of some atmospheric constituents can be
made. Some preliminary results are given and discussion about the app
licability of this system to life quality in the Mediterranean region
is made.
