The annual and monthly variations in the total ozone content (TOC) are
analysed. The efficiency of approximation of monthly TOC variations b
y the Karunen-Loev method is demonstrated. The relationship between th
e monthly TOC variations for such neighbouring months as March-April a
nd October-November has been revealed. The stability of basic approxim
ation functions with respect to the type and size of observational dat
a is shown. The approach suggested can be used for a 1-2 month TOC for
ecast.
