Abstract
By means of the finite element method, we analyze viscoelastic effects on the film casting process. The stretched sheet is considered as a v iscoelastic membrane. We discover dramatic effects directly related to the memory and the extensional behavior of the fluid. In particular, we show that viscoelasticity explains the edge beading phenomenon whic h affects the thickness distribution of cast film.
