Abstract
A simple semidestructive residual-stress-measurement technique, partic ularly suitable for measurement parallel to edges or on outside radii of components, is presented. The nature of the technique obviates reli ance upon calibration constants such as have been obtained for the hol e-drilling and ring-cutting methods for residual-stress measurement. U se of such calibration constants might seriously underestimate stress values for relatively shallow surface stresses such as may be produced by, for example, grinding or thermochemical treatment.
