Several factors affecting germination of C. biasiliensis, L. leucoceph
ala, C. ternatea and C. mucunoides seeds were investigated. They all s
how primary dormancy which is broken different treatments. Chemical sc
arification produced by hot, water or sulphuric acid facilitate seed g
ermination better than mechanical procedures. Temperature was another
essential factor, 28 degrees C providing the optimum condition. On the
other hand, salinity affects seed germination, althoug some seeds sho
wed relative tolerance to high salt concentrations.
