We have performed photoluminescence experiments on modulated barrier I
n0.13Ga0.87As/GaAs quantum wires in normal magnetic fields up to B = 1
0.5 T. By using high excitation powers we observed emission from sever
al lateral subbands. In comparison to low excitation spectra the emiss
ion features are shifted to lower energies due to band gap renormaliza
tion. Calculated luminescence spectra are in excellent agreement with
the experimental spectra and have been used to study many-particle eff
ects in these wires. We have found clear indications for an enhancemen
t of the renormalization in quantum wires as expected due to the incre
ase of the Coulomb interaction.
