Perovskite-type ferroelectric ceramics of the Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O-3-PbTiO3
-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3 ternary system have been synthesized by the columbi
te method. The dielectric and electrostrictive properties of the prese
nt ternary system have been investigated from the view point of actuat
or materials. With increasing Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O-3 content, the peak valu
e of the dielectric constant decreased; however, the Curie temperature
increased. Using suitably selected compositions and sintering process
, material has been obtained with Curie temperature near room tempertu
re, dielectric constant above 12000, and transverse strain near -3(-)4
x 10(-4) induced at an applied electric field of 20 kV/cm.
