Ll. Wong et Rc. Bradt, LIME REFRACTORIES WITH LIMESTONE AND SYNTHETIC CALCIUM HYDROXIDE ADDITIONS, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 78(6), 1995, pp. 1611-1616
The effects of fine, natural limestone and synthetic calcium hydroxide
additions on the sintering and microstructure of two natural, dead-bu
rned limes were investigated. Density increases were achieved and micr
ostructural changes were observed. The high reactivities of the decomp
osition products of the carbonates and hydroxides enhanced the sinteri
ng processes to yield refractory bodies with densities in excess of 90
% of theoretical. Microstructurally, the additions promoted grain grow
th and simultaneously modified the porosity of these high-density refr
actory bodies.
