Vi. Boiko et al., A COMPOSITE EXPLOSIVE EMISSION CATHODE MADE FROM A METAL-CERAMIC WITHLANTHANUM AND TITANIUM BORIDES, Instruments and experimental techniques, 38(2), 1995, pp. 272-274
A composite explosive emission cathode for generating large-diameter e
lectron beams has been fabricated from LaB6-TiB2 produced by self-sust
aining high-temperature synthesis. Electron microscope studies of the
emitting surface indicate that the height of micropoints is 2-13 mu m,
their base diameters are 5-13 mu m, and their density is 2 . 10(6) cm
(-2) Cathode emission characteristics measured at the OMEGA-350 accele
rator are compared to those of a steel emitter.
