YIELD AND FORAGE VALUE OF A PERENNIAL RYE GRASS SWARD AS AFFECTED BY A DICYANDIAMIDE FERTILIZER

The effect of a Dicyandiamide fertilizer (ALZON) on perennial ryegrass production and forage value was investigated in a four year field exp eriment in comparison with a calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizer (KAS) . The amount of N-fertilization and timing of application was variied. The results are summarized as follows: DM yield did not differ signif icantly between ALZON and KAS fertilization. At a high level of N-fert ilization there was a significant effect of the times of application o n nitrogen uptake. No significant differences of the net energy value (NEL) of the forages were found between ALZON and KAS fertilizer. Acco rding to the ratio of water soluble carbohydrates and buffering capaci ty ALZON did slightly increase the ensilability of the forages.
