The near infrared and visible absorption spectrum of nitrous oxide (N2
O)-N-14-O-16 has been recorded by Fourier transform absorption spectro
scopy, between 6500 and 11 000 cm(-1), and by Intracavity Laser Absorp
tion Spectroscopy, between 11 700 and 15 000 cm(-1). Nineteen new band
s are observed and, altogether, 34 cold and 10 hot bands are rotationa
lly analyzed. The related upper term values, vibrational assignments,
and principal rotational constants, as well as the relative band inten
sities are quantitatively discussed in terms of the formation of vibra
tional clusters, on the basis of the effective Hamiltonian developed b
