Abstract
The emission of light by a single pulsating bubble of xenon trapped in nonaqueous fluids has been observed. The intensity of sonoluminescenc e displays a remarkable structure as a function of the temperature and partial pressure of solution. At the light-emitting moment the bubble is so focused and stressed that Swan lines are absent from the spectr um of single bubble sonoluminescence in organic liquids.
