Abstract
The effect of using headphone versus telephone handsets is characteriz ed for degradation mean opinion score (DMOS) assessments. From this, i t is derived that differences in opinion scores are dependent on the t ype of listening instrument employed. Further, in the middle of the qu ality range, opinions scores derived from tests employing telephone ha ndsets are higher than those derived from tests employing headphones.
