In diagnostics of BPH percutaneous and endoluminal sonography has near
ly replaced radiodiagnostics. In the differentiation of iritative and
obstructive symptoms Symptom-scores are used. Concerning therapy of BH
P essential innovations have enlarged the spectrum of medicaments and
operative treatment. In early stages alpha-1-blockers and 5-alpha-redu
ctase-blockers are successfully used in addition to phytopharmacas. In
advanced disease transurethral resection or open prostatectomy remain
the goldstandard because of high effectiveness. Useful alternatives a
re intraurethral implants, the TUIP, the different laser techniques an
d the thermotherapy. TUNA and HlFUP seem to be successful. Because of
ineffectiveness hyperthermia, ballon dilatation, robotic prostatectomy
and shokwaves have been left.
