H. Kulkarni et Sb. Deolankar, HYDROGEOLOGICAL MAPPING IN THE DECCAN BASALTS - AN APPRAISAL, Journal of the Geological Society of India, 46(4), 1995, pp. 345-352
A great deal of diversity exists in the approaches to hydrogeological
mapping of the Deccan basalts. For any hydrogeological study in the De
ccan basalts to be fruitfully applicable, there is an ardent need to s
tandardise the procedure towards hydrogeological mapping. To overcome
practical difficulties in the hydrogeological mapping of the Deccan ba
salts, a systematic approach which is based on a lithological model ob
served widely over the Deccan basaltic province is proposed here. The
approach incorporates mapping on a suitable scale that defines the inh
omogeneities in the hydrogeological character of the basalts. Detailed
acquisition and systematic representation of data (such as recording
the configuration of inflow zones in wells) and the capacity of extrap
olation over the Deccan basaltic terrain render this approach more use
r-friendly.
