Abstract
This article discusses some of the concerns that are being expressed a bout the use of new technologies to make copies of documents for prese rvation reasons. To highlight some of the questions, parallels with th e world of picture restoration are drawn. The possibility of devising a simple ethical rule for making preservation copies is discussed and a possible solution given.
