An automated method by flow injection analysis was developed for the s
imultaneous determination of iron and titanium in mixtures. The method
is based in the design of a FIA manifold which includes selective red
uction of the analytes using Cd and Ag microcolumns and the subsequent
reaction with permanganate. The discoloration of permanganate is cont
inuously recorded by a spectrophotometric detector. The determination
of the species in mixtures shows results slightly less accurate and pr
ecise than those determined by the manual method. However, the propose
d method is twenty times faster.
