We have studied two tetranucleotide short tandem repeats (STRs) (VWA a
nd human TPO) in 260 individuals from Galicia by means of polymerase c
hain reaction amplification followed by electrophoresis separation and
silver staining. The feasibility of the analytical technique and the
level of polymorphism attained by both systems (PIC = 0.764 for VWA; P
IC = 0.563 for TPO) allow us to consider the two STRs as suitable and
informative markers in routine population profiling studies.
