Under the ARCAL/IAEA programme, the LNMRI/IRD-CNEN promoted the third
Latin American intercomparison of personal dosimetry systems during 19
92. Ten countries participated in the study by sending personal doseme
ters used for whole-body monitoring in photon radiation fields to be i
rradiated at LNMRI over a wide range of photon energies and angles. Ba
sed on the evaluation of the dose equivalent reported by the participa
nts, the LNMRI analysed the performance of each personal dosimetry sys
tem regarding its reproducibility, energy dependence, angular dependen
ce and its accuracy. It was concluded that most participants' personal
dosimetry systems should have their energy and angular dependence red
uced. A step forward is suggested towards the implementation of the IC
RU operational quantities in the region.
