A variety of dynamic states can be created from chaos by using a weak
periodic perturbation. Since these states can be further classified by
some characteristic index, here the Shannon entropy, we suggest that
a temporal programming of small parameter switching between these dyna
mic states can lead to a new mean of message coding without greatly mo
difying the system. Thus a unique scheme of information transmission c
an be achieved by way of coding chaos based on the Shannon entropy cha
racterization. We demonstrate experimentally the proposed scheme in a
semiconductor diode.
