E. Petrangeli et al., GENE METHYLATION OF ESTROGEN AND EPIDERMAL GROWTH-FACTOR RECEPTORS INNEOPLASTIC AND PERINEOPLASTIC BREAST TISSUES, British Journal of Cancer, 72(4), 1995, pp. 973-975
Oestrogen receptor (ER) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) ge
ne methylation was evaluated in neoplastic and perineoplastic breast t
issues from 20 patients. In both tissues, ER gene methylation was inve
rsely correlated with protein levels, while EGFR gene methylation was
not. A preferential ER gene hypomethylation was found in neoplastic ti
ssues, suggesting a significant role in neoplastic transformation.
