T. Takahashi et al., CRYSTAL-FIELD SPLITTING IN CEB6 AS OBSERVED BY HIGH-RESOLUTION PHOTOEMISSION, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 52(13), 1995, pp. 9140-9142
Comparative high-resolution photoemission measurement was performed fo
r CeB6 and CeCu6 to study the electronic structure near E(F). The phot
oemission spectra near E(F) of both compounds show a characteristic sa
tellite at 270 meV from E(F) due to the spin-orbit splitting of a Ce 4
f electron (4f(7/2)-4f(5/2)), while the spectrum of CeB6 exhibits an a
dditional small feature around 70 meV. Model calculations based on the
noncrossing approximation show that this satellite is due to the crys
tal-held splitting (Gamma(7)-Gamma(8)) of the Ce 4f(5/2), state in CeB
6.
